Riff-Raffles Revenge!

I thought it was about time I gave you an update on how the writing is going for my new book and what is happening with Riff-Raffles.

Well I am away for the last ten days of January with my pal Kevin and we will be doing the proofreading and editing of the new book, Riff Raffles Revenge. This sequel to Riff-Raffles is almost complete and already some 10 percent longer than the original. In addition I am hoping that Mike Baird, a well known and published cartoonist from Pattaya, will be adding some of his work to go along with the stories.

I expect to write another two or three stories before Riff Raffles Revenge is completely done and I expect to be finished no later than mid to late February. If this goes according to plan the new work should be available from April of this year.

Riff Raffles Revenge is very much in the same vein as the original and many of the stories have appeared on this blog since its inception. I have, however, introduced more stories of my life in England as a comparison to events that have occurred here over the last 12 or so months. I also believe this new work is tighter than Riff-Raffles in its content and style. However, I think the humour has remained very much the same, so if you enjoyed Riff-Raffles and this blog then the new book will be a must for you.

Riff-Raffles sales have continued to go well over the first six months since publication. I believe well over 1,000 copies have been sold already and I still receive numerous positive emails or visits from readers. Earlier this week I agreed a deal with my publishers for Riff-Raffles to be published in German, Swedish, French and Russian and these editions will be out over the course of the next few months.

Once Riff Raffles Revenge is completed, and the publication date made known to me, I will be endeavouring to arrange some launch parties. I will hopefully start with something here at Jasmine Mansion in Pattaya then move to Bangkok and onto Udon Thani. Hopefully these events will create some additional buzz from the press as well as giving several people the opportunity to get their hands on a signed first edition of the book.

After the launch of Riff Raffles Revenge I will probably take a break from writing for a couple of months whilst I decide what my next venture will be. With Mrs. Boss and I having had so many things to do over the last couple of years I think we need some “together” time. With both the boys being away at school during the week from May onwards this would seem like an ideal opportunity for us to spend some time together and make some plans for the future.

Whilst I still harbour a desire to write a novel writing about real life events, either affecting me or others, seems to be more my style. I have a couple of ideas I am playing around with at the moment and will hopefully pick one of these up and run with it later in the year.

As for this Blog, well I will try to keep on writing stories for as long as Mrs. Boss and I remain the owners of the hotel — the way things are going that will probably be forever! However, at this moment in time I feel that Riff Raffles Revenge is likely to be the last book published about my life in Thailand for some time to come. However, to be honest, I did say the same thing as I came to the end of writing Riff-Raffles!
